Hi All,

I'm new to this list so apologies if these things have already been
addressed. If so, a pointer to the mailing list archive (if such an animal
exists) would be swell......

If I wanted to include a latitude, longitude, and possibly other GPS
information with my mp3, would there be a way to accomplish that with id3v2?
How about an entire track log of information? (e.g., 30 seconds worth of
GPS data corresponding with a 30 second mp3.

Thanks!
Jerry

Jerry, you might want to consider the "GEOB General encapsulated
object"...

Or a User Defined Text Field (TXXX). This is the way MusicBrainz
stores its identifiers in ID3 tags:

http://musicbrainz.org/docs/specs/metadata_tags.html
http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/PicardTagMapping

It would be good to have a defacto standard for field name and co-
ordinate format... Wonder if AudioBoo could use this?

Yes, TXXX frames are much easier to use, and much better supported then GEOB

I agree that it would be good to have a frame specifically for
geospatial information. Is there a way to make a proposal?
Meanwhile, I'll look at musicbrainz's info. Thanks for the lead.

I would like to learn how to make a proposal also. I'm interested in
getting the musical key of the song added to the meta-info.

There no way of proposing one because there is no one actively charged
with creating a new version of ID3, all you can do is use a frame like
TXXX which allows you to add a name and value, and then publicize what
you have done and add incorporate it into the libraries and projects you
are involved in. For musical-key there is already a frame for this TKEY

Oh, from the content on the id3.org website, it seems like v2.4 is in the
works, i.e., not finalized. I thought that id3.org's owners owned and could
change the ID3 specification. I'm not suggesting that we make a revision
simply for adding geotagging, but rather float a proposal so that people
could review and work out any problems so that when it comes time for
another revision, we could formalize that change into the new revision. Are
you saying there's no process for doing such a thing? Was there no process
for id3v2's existing revisions? Just like EXIF and VorbisComment metadata
includes geospatial information, I am of the opinion that ID3 should also
allow for geospatial outside of simply dumping in a TXXX frame. I would
propose that it be something like SGPS and similar in content to EXIF's GPS
fields and include a way to mark timecodes in the file with gps records,
perhaps similar to the ECTO and other synchronized frames do it.....but I'd
settle for a single GPS mark :) editing becomes a little tricky, but this
would need to be dealt with for ECTO and other synch'ed frames as well.

Thanks,
Jerry
